Why we exist...
Our Mission: To provide a global service for processing any and all types of hebarium specimen sheets in effort to make this historical information digitally available for research.
Our Vision: This project was conceived in 2009 to approach processing herbarium label data in a different way that has been done in the past and to take advantage of current technologies as well as citizen scientist to help rethink the global efforts in processing millions of herbarium labels.
Who Benefits: The primary beneficiary are the curators of the herbaria we are helping. By helping to catalogue their historical collections we are allowing them to better understand what is in their collection. The second most important is the community. By making this information available it will help us better understand the world that we live in. Botanical research has an important impact on endangered species, habitats, ecology and medicine among other things.
Part of our services allows citizen scientist to earn HS Tokens and use those to help Charities, Fund Student Grants, purchase software and equipment offer herbaria and K12 science classes. See our Public Services to learn more of how we are giving back to the community.
The Team: The HelpingScience project web created by Michael Giddens and is developed and maintained by SilverBiology, LLC. It is our intention to produce the most advanced online community service for processing hebarium information.
